The SALM1801 series ESD Wrist Strap Monitorhas independant circuitry designed to continuously monitor the connections to earth of the ESD Wrist Strap.
This section continuously monitors the wriststrap to detect loss of continuity between operator and monitor. Conditions such as broken coil cords and improper contact with the skin are detected instantly to alert the operator before serious and expensive ESD damage can occur. As there is no resistive return path from the wriststrap, it uses the ''Capacitive AC principle'' to check if the operator is adequately grounded. The Wrist Strap section is automatically activated when it is plugged in. Continuous monitoring reduces the need for periodic checks and audits and also ensures greater security.
ANSI/ESD S20.20 section 7.3 states “Compliance verification records shall be established and maintained to provide evidence of conformity to the technical requirements.” Per ANSI/ESD S1.1 Annex A.3 Daily (wrist strap system) testing may be omitted if constant monitoring used.” Per ESD Handbook ESD TR 20.20 section 220.127.116.11.4 “Typical Test programs recommend that wrist straps that are used daily should be tested daily. However, if the products that are being produced are of such value that knowledge of a continuous, reliable ground is needed, and then continuous monitoring should be considered or even required.”

3. Plug the wrist cord into the operator jack. Tund on the switch.The green operator LED will illuminate. This indicates that the operator is properly grounded.
4. If this does not happen, examine the wrist cord for continuity or damage and the wristband to ensure that it fits securely. If you have dry skin, apply an approved dissipative hand lotion.
5. When leaving the workstation, first tund off the monitor's park switch . Use this time to disconnect the wrist cord from the wristband and attach it to the park snap without sounding a false alarm.
Placement：Set the SALM1801 Workstation Monitor in a clearly visible, convenient location where it does not interfere with normal work.
Connecting Reference Ground：Attach the other end of the reference ground wire to a known-good-ground in the area.
Connecting Power：Plug the power adapter into a power outlet, and plug the cord into the SALM1801 Workstation Monitor.
LED: When the LED is illuminated green,the operator is properly grounded and their resistance level is below the preset alarm level. When the LED is illuminated solid red and the alarm sounds, the operator is not properly grounded. When the LED is blinking red
and the alarm sounds, the body resistance on the operator above the preset alarm level.
Resistance Alarm Adjustment: Turn the trimpot clockwise to increase the resistance alarm threshold. Turn the trimpot counter-clockwise to decrease the resistance alarm threshold.
Frequency of recalibration should be based on the critical nature of those ESD sensitive items handled and the risk of failure for the ESD protective equipment and materials. In general, Zhengfei recommends that calibration be performed annually. Use the SALM1800 Monitor Verification Tester to perform periodic verification (once every 6-12 months) of the Full-Time Continuous Monitor. The verification tester can be used to check the test limits of the Full-Time Continuous Monitor without removing it from the workstation.
